Boro + Sashiko Basics Workshop - Saturday 1st February 2.00pm - 5.00pm
Boro + Sashiko Basics
Many cultures have their own unique way of decorating or repairing textiles, Boro Mending and Sashiko Embroidery are two such techniques originating from Japan. Both use a running stitch to breathe new life into clothing/textiles as part of a simple and mindful practice.
This workshop will introduce you to all the basic hand-sewing techniques and skills required to create your own authentic Boro patching or traditional Sashiko embroidery designs.
All materials and equipment will be provided, you just need to bring a garment (or two) which you’d like to refresh or repair. Denim garments are particularly suited to these techniques as they were originally developed to decorate/repair indigo-dyed textiles.
Your tutor, Dianne Spottiswood Miller is a fashion/textile designer & educator with significant experience of working in the creative sector, higher education and internationally. She currently works with Edinburgh Remakery, teaching creative textile mending skills.
Suitability: Beginner, 16+(if accompanied by an adult)

What we provide: tea, coffee and a fun and supportive environment for learning!
